Nowadays we face a lot of windows crashing issues, then we have to install a new window in our pc or laptop and if you are going to install windows through a pen drive (USB) you need to make it bootable. So here I am going to tell you about how to make USB bootable by using the command prompt. we don’t need any third party software to make USB bootable. By using these simple steps and some basic knowledge of CMD commands you can also make your USB bootable.

Steps to make USB bootable by using Command prompt

By using the simple steps you can easily make your USB (pen drive) bootable in few minutes without any software just by using Command prompt. Follow the steps below:

1: Open CMD (Command prompt).

2: After opening CMD, type “DISKPART” and press enter

3: Now a new window will open, then type “LIST DISK” and press enter

4: After typing “LIST DISK” a list of disks will appear. Now select your USB disk by typing “SELECT DISK 1” and press enter

5: After selecting DISK 1, type “CLEAN DISK” and press enter

USB bootable

 

6: Now, type “SELECT PARTITION PRIMARY” and press enter

7: Now, type “SELECT PARTITION 1” and press enter

USB bootable

 

8: After selecting the partition, type “FORMAT FS=FAT32 QUICK” and press enter

USB bootable

 

9: After 100 completion, type “ACTIVE” and press enter

USB bootable

 

10: Now, type “EXIT” and press enter

After completing these steps, you have to copy windows files (ie. Windows 10) to your USB. If you have ISO of Windows, mount it to CD drive using ULTRA ISO, otherwise, you can directly copy your windows files. To copy windows files follow these steps:

  • Mount your windows ISO file

  • Check if properly mounted or not.

  • After mounting your ISO file, now check your mounted drive path [ie. (G:)] and your USB drive path [ie. (H:)] and now open command prompt and type “XCOPY G:\*.* /S/E/F H:\  (eg. “XCOPY your ISO drive path:\*.* /S/E/F your USB drive path:\)

  • Wait until the files are copied.
